Barn Development - Walk in Closet

I added some Ikea metal poles and shelves to the back and walls of my closet.  On the floor I bought some Ikea TV tables and placed shoe boxes, again from Ikea in them. I also added a white box I had for winter jumpers.

On the left side I have bags, belts and costume jewellery.  I can add extra bags on top of the shelf. 

Further on I have dresses and long clothes.

I have 2 rows of hangers for tops, trousers and skirts.

On the right side I have poles for lots of scarves.

Shoes and boots.









Up in the eves I have some extra shelves for storage and suitcases.
It may be small but it holds every thing I want and I can see what I have.

The kitchen floor tiles going down.  We chose a gorgeous grey limestone.

In the meantime, Anjay our Polish friend was taking up the old floor in the cottage kitchen area.  It did not go with the new floor and what we had planned with the rest of the cottage.
What a stressful, filthy and noisy job it was.  We were at the end of our tether at this point but we had to carry on.

Once the floor was removed Anjay built some new stud walls around the sink area to make a new utility room.

More electrical holes were being cut to supply new lights and light switches.

While the workmen were building,  installing, and putting in the electrics we painted and painted and painted!  It seemed endless and some of the ceilings were tricky and high.

It is amazing how many electrical and light fixtures needed to be installed. It was difficult at times to know how these would look as decisions on them had to be made at the first fix stage.

I decided to try a paint affect for my tiny walk in closet.  Most of the walls will be covered with clothes so it didn't really matter if it looked  terrible!

As the room did not have any windows we put a dehumidifier in to try and dry the area out.  As it was I later found that some of my clothes did form some mildew. 













After adding paint,  I added brush marks stencils and stamps.  I decided it was fine!

Barn Renovation - The Wall

In order to sell our old house we errected a fence to split the drive way but always intended to build a wall there so that the dividing of the property would look more permanent.
Once the fence was taken down a trench was excavated and a concrete  foundation poured. The drive has a slope so this had to be done in stages and stepped.

Once this had dried the foundation bricks were laid.

It didnt take long for the wall to grow and within a couple of days it was complete.

A gap has been left to allow for a gate and I started laying pieces of wood where I wanted flower beds to be dug out.  This had to be achieved with a digger as there was such a thick layer of hand core under the gravel.

The scree arrived ready mixed and is poured through a huge nozzle.  It is then spread about evenly with a rake.

The electric cable for the island in the kitchen sits proud of the scree.

The scree men started in the berooms and worked back along the hall which is on a lower level.  They finally did the kitchen.

The scree forms a scum on top as it dries which has to be brushed or scraped off when the floor is hard enough to walk on.

Insulation has been laid down on all of the new floors  and then the pipes for the underfloor heating.

All of the pipes end in a cupboard
which will be the control area eventually.

The area where the walk in shower is  to be situated has been separated with wood.


Little metal spiders mark the level that  the scree has to be poured to.

Finally the builders start the difficult task of adding plaster board abd plaster.










 The velux windows in the kitchen ceiling had to be built up as the roof pitch was not steep enough.  These also had to be plasterboarded.

The small guest bedroom.

The plasterers did an excellent job as some of the roof spaces were very small.  The oak beams were wrapped in plastic to protect them from the water and plaster.

The kitchen ceiling was the first complete area plastered.
